Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in the clarinet audition hosted by the United States Air Force
Band of the West. This bass audition will be conducted in two parts: (1) an initial screening and
selection by pre-recorded submissions and (2) a live audition for those selected from the initial
screening. Details concerning the pre-screening submission are attached. Please look over the
requirements carefully to determine if you are prepared to audition at this time. The following
information outlines important dates and requirements.
17 June 2024 – Deadline for receipt of all musical pre-screening materials
1 July 2024 – Notification of pre-screening results sent by email
19 August 2024– Live audition at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX
In addition to passing the bass audition, applicants must meet all Air Force age, weight,
medical, financial, legal, and citizenship requirements. Many of your initial questions concerning
the USAF enlisted military experience can be answered at https://www.airforce.com/. If you are
invited to the live audition, you will be required to meet with an official Air Force recruiter to be
pre-qualified for basic military training. The audition coordinator can assist with this process and
provide further instructions.
Qualified applicants may be assigned to any USAF Regional Band, depending on the
greatest need of the Air Force. Air Force Regional Bands are located at the following Air Force
Bases: Langley, Wright-Patterson, Scott, Offutt, Lackland, Travis, Ramstein, Hickam and
Yokota.

ANNOUNCES AN AUDITION FOR
CLARINET
PRE-SCREENING REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
Pre-Screen Recording
a. Solo: perform the following (or select a comparable solo work)
i. Mozart: Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K622, mvt 1, exposition
b. Excerpts: submit 5 excerpts showcasing a variety of styles. Suggested excerpts include, but are not
limited to:
i. Verdi/Lake: La Forza Del Destino, Overture, G - H
ii. Makris/Bader: Aegean Festival Overture, cadenza
iii. Granger: Lincolnshire Posy, Brisk Young Sailor, mm. 1-25
iv. Respighi: Pines of Rome, Mvt III, complete
v. Rimsky-Korsakov: Capriccio Espagnol, Mvt 1, A – B and C to 11 measures before end
vi. Brahms: Symphony No. 3, Mvt II, mm. 1-13
vii. Mendelssohn: Scherzo from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, mm. 1-4
LIVE Audition Date: 19 August, 2024 at San Antonio, TX (JBSA Lackland)
Each candidate will be notified of results by 1 July, 2024.
Live audition is invitation only.
Pre-Screen Submission Instructions:
Please submit MP3 or WAV files - video files will not be accepted. Name each file with the
following convention: “YourLastName_SongOrExcerptTitle”. Each song/excerpt should be
its own file. Add all songs/excerpts to a single folder. The folder should be named with the
following convention, “YourLastName_YourFirstName_Bass”

include your full name, phone number, and instrument you are auditioning for.
