Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the jazz trombone audition hosted by the United States Air
Force Heritage of America Band. This musical audition will be conducted in two parts: (1) an
initial screening and selection by pre-recorded submissions and (2) a live audition for those
selected from the initial screening. Details concerning the pre-screening submission are
attached. Please look over the requirements carefully to determine if you are prepared to
audition at this time. The following information outlines important dates and requirements.
13 Aug 2024 – Deadline for receipt of all musical pre-screening materials
27 Aug 2024 – Notification of pre-screening results sent by email
24 Sep 2024 – Live audition at Langley Air Force Base, Hampton, VA
In addition to passing the musical audition, applicants must meet all Air Force age,
weight, medical, financial, legal, and citizenship requirements. Many of your initial questions
concerning the USAF enlisted military experience can be answered at https://www.airforce.com/.
If you are invited to the live audition, we recommend you meet with an official Air Force
recruiter to help determine any potentially disqualifying conditions. The audition coordinator
can assist with this process and provide further instructions.
Qualified applicants may be assigned to any USAF Regional Band, depending on the
greatest need of the Air Force. Air Force Regional Bands are located at the following Air Force
Bases: Langley, Wright-Patterson, Scott, Offutt, Lackland, Travis, Ramstein, Hickam and
Yokota.

ANNOUNCES AN AUDITION FOR
Jazz Trombone
PRE-SCREENING REQUIREMENTS
a. Jazz: submit 2 excerpts from big band repertoire (e.g., Splanky, Moten Swing,
Groove Merchant, In the Mood, etc.).
b. Improv: submit 2 contrasting jazz standards with live rhythm section or background
track. Include the head and at least 2 choruses of improvisation on each.
c. Personal Strengths (optional): submit one or more selections that further displays
musical strengths or capabilities. This could be an additional jazz standard, excerpt,
etude, example of section-playing, etc.
Please submit audio recordings (MP3 files preferred) only. Please include last name and
selection title in each file name. Submit recordings via cloud sharing services such as
Google Drive(preferred), Dropbox, etc. Please ensure all files are accessible for
viewing/download.
